# How to read a New York apparel industry registration record

## How to read these records

### The certificate

Issued by the New York State Department of Labor to an apparel manufacturer or contractor. Most certificates run
to January 14 of a year: the registration year of this program.

### Active or expired

The status in the file of October 1, 2026. An expired certificate may have been renewed under a new number, or the
business may have stopped. City pages list active certificates only.

### What is not here

Phone numbers in the state file, violations and wage claims, and whether a business is a manufacturer or a
contractor — the file does not say.
